I have never been accused of using a DUI. I’m lucky, I think. And lately, I’m making much better decisions before drinking and driving. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that I am a DUI attorney and know the consequences of being charged with a DUI, whether it is fair or not. But others I know have not been so lucky. I have brothers with DUI convictions. My father has received a DUI. I have some friends who have been busted for a DUI. Like everyone probably does.
This is part of the reason why I became a DUI attorney and criminal defense attorney. Because everyday people face criminal charges for making a wrong decision. It is very likely that all their lives before that night were good citizens, following the law and going about their normal lives. And now everything is in turmoil and the frightening thing is that conviction may follow you forever.
So you come to me, and I work for you to give you a second chance, to keep your record clean, to get past this bad decision and carry on with your life with a lesson I just learned.
Now, second chances mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. And what I do as a criminal defense attorney is not just to make a couple of phone calls and take the first deal that’s offered. No, I do much more than that. My goal has always been, for every client I have, to separate. The charges were dropped. End of state, continue as if nothing happened. I get this result from time to time.
However, second chances often mean dismissal after time, reduced charges to a minimum offense, or no prison sentence and a light fine. For most cases, it really depends on the facts. The more leverage I have, the better your case will be. The less leverage I have, the worse your condition becomes. And contrary to popular belief, we are not miracle workers. We can’t pull a rabbit out of a hat. So sometimes we are limited in what we can do.
In the end, if you make a bad decision and end up facing criminal charges of any kind, you deserve someone like me to help you. We know the odds you face, we know your feelings, and we’re here to protect you from the worst-case scenario. So, next time you make a bad decision, don’t make it worse by talking to the cops. Be calm and call a criminal defense attorney to help you. Second chances are there, you just have to grab them.
